  Mimosa
Further to my post before last, I see Ruth has some beautiful photos today of mimosa from the Cote d'Azur. Sigh.

Hey, that's our wattle. Comes up like a weed in our garden and we are always pulling it out. Have never thought to pick it as it drops such a lot of mess. And its perfume can really bother asthmatics. But Ruth's photo is indeed lovely - and is of a very special variety I'm sure.
 
Yes, it does seem to be the same thing, and not of a special variety! Interesting how plants seem more special when they are rare (not many places in Europe with the right climate for mimosa).The fact that it doesn't survive long and drops quickly when picked, so there isn't a huge industry in sending it all over Europe contributes to this, I think.
