  Words of discomfort

I wonder if
anyone walks sanely in middle age. Isn't there
always some desperation for the taste of one last
miraculous fruit, that has to be pulled from the air?

Elaine Feinstein
(currently my favourite poet - I heard her read some of her stuff last night. She's wonderful! Serious case of heroine-worship).

Comments:
Jean, thank you for this introduction. I read her Poems for Arnold and they are beautiful, lovely and heart-wrenching at the same time, like life.

At first I had a rush of -- "oh, that's so true!" -- and then I realized, to my chagrin, that actually -- it's been just as true of me at every phase of my life. Walking sanely is a project I've never achieved :-)

Oh I so feel how true that is, and also dale, at every stage.

thank you Jean for another introduction to a wonderful poet.

I walked so close to the edge for so many years, and through so many phases, that if I am insane noew, it is so much less it feels just fine thankyouverymuch.

If that miraculous fruit is going to get rid of the hot flashes, I'm all for it. :)

Karen, time does that, thank god, no miracles required - I think mine have stopped, touch wood :-)
